Mr Front Page / A Program Episode

Posted on Jan 22, 2016

How Bruce Postle, one of Australia’s greatest newspaper photographers, always got the front page pictures.

Nicknamed Mr Front Page, Bruce Postle had the happy knack of knowing how to take great newspaper photographs. He was always in the right place at the right time, but more than that, Bruce always had an idea in his head about the photo he wanted to take.

In this episode for the Arts TV program InsideArt, Michel Lawrence interviewed Bruce, his former editor Mike Smith and friends and colleagues about bruce’s impact as a newspaper photographer.

Bruce’s photos included Prime Ministers, footballers, racehorses and high risk news photos of disasters and floods. He took photos of rock stars, movie stars, tv stars and great champions.

And to get those photos Bruce was willing to go right to the edge. In going to the edge, Bruce lost or destroyed more than 30 cameras in his time!
But Bruce would do (almost) anything to be on the Front Page.
